Dr. Garcia’s bariatric surgical practice offers gastrectomy sleeve surgery and gastric bypass to patients struggling with weight loss. Bariatric surgery is a standard procedure in the United States and many other countries worldwide. Since Dr. Garcia opened the facility in 2009, he has successfully helped thousands of obese patients overcome their weight problems and lead healthier lives.
The gastric sleeve surgery tackles the weight problem by shrinking the stomach to reduce hunger sensation and appetite. Patients who undergo gastric sleeve surgery can shed as much as 60 percent of the excessive body weight within two years of surgery. To perform gastric sleeves, Dr. Garcia makes tiny incisions to facilitate the insertion of surgical equipment into the intended abdominal section. The doctor inspects the stomach with the help of laparoscopy equipment. The bariatric surgeon then inserts a specialized tube into the abdomen, which acts as a sizer during the stomach shrinking process. The surgeon completes the procedure by dividing the stomach into two portions and then removing part of the stomach before stitching it to the desired size.
Gastric sleeve improves patients’ overall health and delivers longer-lasting results than other bariatric procedures. Dr. Garcia’s gastric sleeve procedure combines the latest technology to guarantee safety and healthier outcomes for patients. Our robotic surgery facility also offers gastric bypass or Roux-en-Y gastric procedures to overcome obesity. This procedure is the go-to solution when dietary and lifestyle changes prove ineffective in tackling weight issues. It offers a healthy way to lose weight for people struggling with weight-related complications.
The surgeon begins by making small incisions on the abdominal walls. The bariatric surgeon creates a pouch from the original stomach and connects it directly to the small intestines. As a result, a portion of food consumed bypasses the stomach and enters the small intestine. Dr. Garcia performs extensive screening tests to ensure patients meet the medical criteria for weight-loss surgical procedures. Similar to gastric sleeve procedures, Dr. Garcia does his best to prepare patients well in advance to ensure a smooth recovery after the procedure.

Dr. Garcia’s Pembroke Pine facility offers hernia and colon surgery as part of their general surgery practice. The facility relies on innovation and advanced technology that combines robotics and laparoscopic procedures to deliver safe outcomes and quick patient recovery. The colon surgery practice caters to patients ailing from colon cancer, diverticulitis, and rectum disorders.
Diverticulitis is a common digestive tract complication affecting many South Floridians. The condition manifests through bulging in the lower portion of the digestive tract. It primarily affects people over 40 and can lead to severe abdominal complications if left untreated. Though mild diverticulitis is treatable using a combination of antibiotics and dietary changes, severe variants often require surgical intervention.
Dr. Alvaro performs colorectal surgery that combines Laparoscopy and robotics to ensure swift recovery of patients. Also known as keyhole surgery, Laparoscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that provides easy access to abdominal sections through tiny incisions. The general surgeon performs diagnostics and therapeutic intervention with the help of a light-guided camera. Laparoscopy is a painless procedure, and most patients go home on the same day of treatment. Besides the quick hospital discharge, laparoscopy patients also benefit from less scarring and faster recovery times.
Dr. Alvaro’s Pembroke facility also offers hernia repair through minimally invasive procedures like Laparoscopy. The surgeon makes a tiny incision near the hernia opening and repositions the abdominal building to its original location before reinforcing the abdominal wall with stitches.
Dr. Garcia’s general surgery practice relies on colonoscopy to diagnose colon cancer and other abdominal disorders. Colonoscopy is a modern diagnostic technology that entails inserting a flexible tube with a camera attachment via an abdominal incision.
This technique is particularly effective in detecting polyps that may later develop into colon cancer. If polyps are detected, the surgeon collects tissue samples for further laboratory study for an accurate diagnosis. Dr. Alvaro carefully explains all surgical procedures to patients to ensure they are at ease before and after the operation.
